J. After a wonderful breakfast in the main house (a former station building), we head towards Maligne Lake. The first stop is at Maligne Canyon: steep gorges and thundering water in the depths. When we get to Medicin Lake, we are in awe of the beautiful landscape. We park the car at Maligne Lake and enjoy a lovely picknick on the lake side. What a great location for a picknick!
Next up: a 2.5 hour hike along the lake, the Lake Shore Trail. We are kind of exhausted when we return to Maligne Lodge, and enjoy a nice icecream, before heading back to the Old Entrance and Hinton. Along the road we spot large karibu, and end up in a real karibu jam! J. and W. think they see a bear further up the road in the bushes.
When we get to Hinton we do some shopping, and buy groceries for three days. Walmart, Liquor Store and Safeway we not safe today… Back at our white cabin, we cook our dinner and it is around 20:30, when we sit outside on the porch enjoying the evening with a good meal. What a holiday!
Na een heerlijk ontbijt in het grote huis (een voormalig stationsgebouw), gaan we richting Maligne Lake. De eerste stop is bij Maligne Canyon, steile afgronden en donderend watergeraas in de diepte. Bij Medicin Lake de volgende stop: schitterende natuur. Bij Maligne Lake parkeren we en gaan picknicken langs het meer en maken daarna een wandeling langs de Lake Shore Trail, van ruim 2,5 uur.
Als we terug zijn, halen we een heerlijk ijsje in de Maligne Lodge en rijden dan terug richting de Old Entrance en Hinton. Onderweg zien we een karibou en komen in een echte Karibu Jam! J. en W. menen iets verderop ook een beer te zien in de struiken. In Hinton gaan we uitgebreid shoppen: in de Walmart, Liquor Store en Safeway. We slaan voor drie dagen eten in en gaan dan weer naar onze White Cabin, waar we gaan koken. We zitten pas om half 9 ’s avonds buiten op de front porch te eten. Dat is pas vakantie!
