AM After breakfast we say goodbye to Vincent and Gabriel House and travel per cab to Cork Airport to pick up our rental car, a Toyota Yaris. It is nice and quiet on the road, and the first roundabout goes smoothly. we take the N20 up north, and our first stop is in Mallow. We walk around, get coffee and ingredients for lunch.
Na het ontbijt gaan we per taxi naar Cork Airport waar we de huurauto gaan ophalen, een Toyota Yaris. Het is nog lekker rustig en de eerste rotonde gaat gesmeerd! Richting Mallow, via de N20, waar we koffie halen bij de McD en broodjes in de lokale Spar (gewoon open op zondag tot onze verbazing).
We continue to Adare, (county Limerick) an idyllic village, where we walk to the Augustinian Priory and the Trinitarian Priory. Lots of romantic cottages with straw roofs, tiny doors and lovely gardens. We have a picknick lunch in Adare Village Park.

Dan door naar Adare, (county Limerick) een idyllisch dorpje, waar we een wandeling maken naar de Augustinian Priory en de Trinitarian Priory. Veel huisjes met rieten daken, mini-deurtjes en prachtige tuinen. Picknick lunch in het Adare Village Park.

After lunch we continue our journey in the direction of Rathkeale and the northern part of county Kerry. Near Askeaton a short stop to take some pictures of the River Shannon, and via Foynes to Tarbert, where we take the John Woodland Walk (6.1 km), before we have tea in Bridewell Jail House.
Via Rathkeale reizen we richten het noorden van county Kerry. Bij Askeaton maken we wat foto’s bij de River Shannon en gaan dan door langs Foynes naar Tarbert, waar we de John Woodland Walk (6.1 km) maken, en thee drinken in Bridewell Jail House.
Next stop is Ballylongford, Castle View House on Carrig Island, our place for the next two nights. Carrig Island is a peninsula, connected to the mainland by a narrow bridge. We are warmly welcomed by Patricia and Garret Dee. Garret is the proud barrer of the key of Carrigafoyle Castle: every morning he opens the door, every evening he shuts it. Of course we take a look at his castle!
Dan door naar Ballylongford en Castle View House op Carrig Island, een schiereiland dat door middel van een smalle brug is verbonden met het vasteland. Hartelijke ontvangst door Patricia and Garret Dee. Garret Dee is de trotse beheerder Carrigafoyle Castle: iedere dag opent en sluit hij de deur van het kasteel. Natuurlijk gaan we een kijkje nemen!

The Dee’s have offered to cook us dinner: home made soup, roast of chicken, mashed potatoes, broccoli, knolletjes, ice cream, coffee/tea. To make up we decide to walk around Carrig Island: 1,5 hours trough grasslands, over stones and the rocky beach. Luckily it is low tide!
We kunnen het diner gebruiken in Castle View House: home made soup, roast of chicken, mashed potatoes, broccoli, knolletjes, ice cream, coffee/tea: we ploffen zowat! Om het goed te maken doen we ‘s avonds een rondje Carrig Island, 1,5 uur wandelen door weilanden, langs rotsen en de stenen van de kust, waar het (gelukkig) laag water is.
