AM Unfortunately, today, May 28th, it is still raining……and so after breakfast we travel towards Ticonderoga, to visit the fort on the small strip of land between Lake Champlain and Lake George. From 1754 -1764, French and British troops have fought here, claiming the ‘new land’, with or without the help of Indian tribes. The fort Carillon, as it was named by the French, is completely rebuilt and newly recruted soldiers are getting instructions on the Marching Court (no, we were not recruted), to become an official member of the 4th Pennsylvania Regimen. After lunch in the local Luncheonette (”faster than McDonalds”, and the taste is also better) we return to Newcomb; AM is shopping in Material Girls, Maggie’s little quiltshop, with fabrics-fabrics and more fabrics!
Helaas, het regent ook vandaag, 28/5 nog steeds…..dus gaan we na het ontbijt richting Ticonderoga om het fort te bezoeken dat op de plaats staat waar van 1754 tot 1763 hevig strijd is geleverd door Britten en Fransen (die beiden ‘het nieuwe land’ claimden), al dan niet terzijde gestaan door verschillende indianenstammen. Het fort is volledig nagebouwd, en er worden op de binnenplaats net nieuwe recruten opgeleid voor het 4de Pennsylviania Regiment (nee, wij zijn niet gerecruteerd). Na de lunch in de lokale Luncheonette (”faster than McDonalds;” en btw: ook lekkerder) gaan we weer naar Newcomb, waar AM gaat shoppen in het Material Girls winkeltje van Maggie: lapjes-lapjes-lapjes!
