AM Today we planned a road trip – the famous Ring of Kerry. After breakfast (with River View) and a chat with other guests, we decide to not take the North Ring, but drive over the pass near Ballaghishean to Cahersiveen. Nice route, with breathtaking views, and lot of photo opportunities, but also heavy showers (welcome to Ireland!). The roads are narrow, with steeps climbs every now and then, but luckily without much traffic. In Cahersiveen we hike to the remainders of the Fort Cahergal, and enjoy upon return a Soup of the Day in the Red Rose Inn.
Vandaag staat een road trip op het programma, de beroemde Ring of Kerry. Na het ontbijt met ‘river view’ en een babbeltje met andere gasten besluiten we niet de Noordring te nemen maar over de pas via Ballaghishean naar Cahersiveen te rijden. Schitterende route, nagenoeg zonder verkeer, smalle weggetjes, soms steil omhoog en weer omlaag. Veel fotomomenten, echter ook veel heftige regenbuien (welkom in Ierland), In Cahersiveen wandelen we naar de restanten van het Fort Cahergal, en genieten daarna van de Soup of the Day in the (wat benauwde) Red Rose Inn.

We travel to Portmagee and take the tour on Valentia Island. Coffee in Knightstown, and then the scenic road (no buses allowed) to Waterville, where we stay in the Smuggler’s Inn. The weather is typical Irish – showers, mist and sun alternate rapidly.
We rijden door naar Portmagee en doen de route over Valentia Island. Koffie in Knightstown, en dan de toeristische route (no buses allowed) naar Waterville, waar we overnachten in de Smuggler’s Inn. Het weer is typisch Iers – regen, mist en zon wisselen elkaar in hoog tempo af.
