AM Het is hoog tijd voor een nieuwe reis, en dus vertrekken we vanmorgen vroeg uit de Achterhoek richting Schiphol. Lekker rustig op de weg, wel even zoeken naar een plekje op de P3 LangParkeren, waar we meteen de bagage konden inchecken, en ook daarna ging het lekker vlot door de security. Tijd voor brunch – de wachtrij voor de koffie was langer dan voor de douane! Nog snel wat laatste ‘hollandse souvenirs’ gekocht en daarna richting gate D47. We hebben plaatsen met extra beenruimte, dat voelt meteen al riant. De vlucht is rustig, vlak voor Washington DC wat turbulentie, maar we landen al om 14:30 lokale tijd. Dat valt alles mee. Door de douane (wat kom je doen, waar ga je heen, wat zit er in je koffer) en daarna de huurauto ophalen: Kies er maar een uit in zone 3, sleutel zit er in, maakt niet uit welke…..ik ga voor de kleinste, die is toch al snel groot genoeg (een Ford Escape).
It is about time for another trip, and thus, we leave on early Sunday morning from our home town heading to Schiphol Airport. The weather is nice, no traffic jam; and after dropping of our luggage near the long-parking, is it of to the security. The waiting time is really short 3-4 minutes, and it takes definitely longer to get coffee and sandwiches….We buy a few ‘Dutch treats’ for our friends and relax at the gate. From the minute we are on-board we enjoy our ‘extra legroom’! After a smooth flight it is 2:30 pm as we land at Dulles Airport in Washington DC. We get our Welcome to America check (why are you here, where are you staying, what’s in your suitcase), we pick up the rental car (choose anyone you like from zone 3 – of course not the biggest one for me!
Het weer is lekker: zonnetje, hier en daar een wolk, rond de 17 graden. De eerste etappe is 40 miles, door glooiend landschap met wijngaarden. Onze eerste stop is Harper’s Ferry waar we twee nachten blijven in The Stone House B&B. De host is er ff niet, dus hangt er een briefje aan de deur met de pincode voor het slot. We sjouwen de koffers naar boven, en gaan dan op zoek naar wat eten. Op het terras van The Rabbit Hole, met uitzicht op het spoor en de Potomac rivier, drinken we een biertje en eten een burger. Daarna snel richting de B&B, want we zijn behoorlijk gaar….
The weather is nice, sunny, some clouds and 59-62 F. Our first leg is a 40 miles trip through a hilly landscape with vineyards and wineries. The destination for today is Harper’s Ferry, where we will stay two nights in The Stone House B&B. We found a note with our name on the front door with instructions, and after bringing up our luggage, we walk around and decide to have a burger for dinner at The Rabbit Hole. Nice terrace with view on the railroad and the Potomac River. After enjoying a good IPA, we go back to the B&Bm time to go to bed….
