Donderdag belooft een mooie dag te worden met temperatuur rond de 20 graden. Na een gezellig ontbijt vertrekken we richting de Duquesne Incline, waar we de rit omhoog maken en het museum bezoeken. Van boven af heb je een mooi uitzicht over de stad, kun je een deel van de meer dan 600 bruggen zien en het punt waar de drie rivieren (de Monongahela, de Allegheny en de Ohio) samen komen. Het treintje rijdt al bijna anderhalve eeuw tegen Mount Washington op, met een 75 PK motor, die in 1932 is geinstalleerd.
Thursday is promising with expected temperatures of 20 degrees Celsius. After a nice breakfast we take the car in the direction of the Duquesne Incline, where we take the funicular to the top and visit the museum. From the observation deck you not only have a nice view over city, but also over a few of the over 600 bridges, and the point where the three rivers Monongahela, Allegheny and Ohio meet. The funicular is riding up Mount Washington since 1877, and the current 75 horsepower motor is installed in 1932.
Daarna richting Andy Warhol Museum waar we de Engelse vrienden droppen (wij waren daar al eerder) en door naar de Mattress Factory, een ‘laboratorium waar je jezelf kunt onderdompelen in de creatieve visie van kunstenaars van over de hele wereld‘. De tentoonstellingen zijn verspreid over drie gebouwen, vol bijzondere ervaringen. Aanbevolen.
Next stop is the Andy Warhol Museum where we drop off our British friends (we have visited this museum before), and follow our trip to the Mattress Factory, a ‘laboratory where you can immerse yourself in the creative vision of artists from around the world.’ The art and exhibits are spread over three different buildings, and definitely worth a visit.
Een bezoek aan Pittsburgh is niet compleet als je niet naar De Strip bent geweest! Het Stripdistrict is beroemd om de winkels en restaurants. Daar gaan we lunchen bij Bella Notte en een bezoekje brengen aan Penn Mac, of te wel de firma Macaroni, een smakelijke belevenis!
You haven’t experienced Pittsburgh completely, if you haven’t been at the Strip. The Strip District is famous for its deli shops and restaurants. We have pizza at Bella Notte and visit Penn Mac: A visit to Pennsylvania Macaroni is a tasteful experience!
Na thuiskomst in Chez Bev is het tijd voor T’s voetbaltraining in Schenley Park. Ieder kind komt met eigen voetbal, en elk team traint met eigen coaches. Het is nog steeds lekker zonnig, helemaal geen straf of lekker langs de lijn te zitten! Na het eten zitten we met elkaar bij de vuurplaats waar G een lekker vuurtje stookt. Morgen naar Chautauqua Lake!
Back at Chez Bev it is time for T’s soccer practice on the Schenley Oval. Each kid brings his own football, and the teams all train with their own coaches. The weather is still very nice, not bad at all so sit and relax and watch the activities! After dinner, we enjoy the fire G made in the outside fire place. Tomorrow it is off to Chautauqua Lake!
