Monday starts with breakfast prepared by our own chef, and it is lovely! Tea, juice, scrambled eggs, bacon from the oven, and buttered toast (made by T.).

The city of Rye in Sussex is well worth a visit. With the cobblestone streets, characteristic houses with timber work, it is not hard to imagine how it would have been during medieval days. There are lots of small shops with souvenir opportunities. Upon recommendation, we go for lunch to Marino’s Fish Bar, for a genuine Fish & Chips.

After lunch, Ice cream at Mermaid Street, and more strolling through the little streets, it is time to climb the stairs of the Tower of St. Mary’s Church. The church has been the center of Rye for over 900 years. In the church an impressive memorial quilt is on display.

Dinner is at the local pub in Beckley ‘Rose & Crown’, and back in the cottage there’s still time for a round of Scrabble, while the men watch TV.
