J. Friday, last chance to make a trip, and after another beautiful breakfast, we drive in the direction of Shelburne Falls in the Mohawk Trail Region. A cute little village, famous for “The Bridge of Flowers”, which is unique in the world. In 1929, the original trolley bridge across the Deerfield River, was transformed into a Flower Bridge, spearheaded by the Shelburne Fall’s Woman’s Club, and is still under their leadership through the Bridge of Flowers Committee. Furthermore, there are a number of galleries in Shelburne Falls, and we visit one of the largest: The Salmon Falls Artisans Showroom, with artwork of over 100 local artists, including the glasswork of Josh Simpson. Lots and lots to see, and very inspirational. We cannot leave without a typical Josh Simpson piece of art. We spend some time near the Glacier Pot Holes, near the river, where we sit in the shadow. However, it is still very hot, and time for ice cream in The Cosmic Cookie Jar, a small local shop with lovely home made cookies and ice cream – delicious! We take a scenic route (the Mohawk Trail), and returned in Chesterfield. Time to pack and find a spot for our last holiday-dinner!
Vrijdag, onze laatste kans voor een dagtochtje, en na wederom een heerlijk ontbijt, rijden we in de richting van Shelburne Falls, Mohawk Trail regio. Een leuk klein stadje, beroemd om zijn “Brug van Bloemen”, die uniek is in de wereld. In 1929, toen de originele trolley brug over de Deerfield Rivier niet langer werd gebruikt, werd deze omgevormd tot een bloemenbrug, onder leiding van de Shelburne Fall’s Woman’s Club, en tot vandaag de dag wordt de brug nog onder toezicht van het Bloemenbrug committee in stand gehouden en onderhouden. Daarnaast zijn er heel veel galeries in Shelburne falls, en we beozeken een van de grootste: de Salmon Falls Artisans Showroom, waar naast het werk van meer dan 100 lokale kusntenaars, ook het glaswerk van Josh Simpson is te zien (en te kopen!). We verlaten de galerie niet zonder een typsich Josh Simpson werkje, als herinnering aan deze vakantie. Daarna op zoek naar de Glacier Pot Holes, bij de rivier, waar het goed toeven is in de schaduw onder een boom, of op een bankje. Maar na verloop van tijd krijgen we het toch weer te warm en gaan een ijsje eten in de Cosmic Cookie Jar, een piepklein ijs- en koekjeswinkeltje – heerlijk ijs! Dan via de Mohawk Trail en een toeristische route richting Chesterfield. Tijd om in te pakken, en na te denken waar we vanavond ons laatste vakantiemaal gaan gebruiken!
