AM Maura has prepared us an ‘All Day Breakfast‘: fresh fruit juice, cereals, full Irish (black pudding, eggs, bacon, sausages), toast, coffee and tea. She explains the original meaning of and All Day Breakfast: farmers used to have it before they started working in the fields. The only thing they needed during the day was a cup of coffee, which was brought to them while at work, so there was no need to go back to the farm and loose precious time off work.
We have planned to hike a bit round Loophead, where the Lighthouse is located, on the very end of the peninsula. The sea is impressive, the waves seem to be playing with a small fishing boat, bringing in the ‘catch of the day’.
Maura heeft voor ons een origineel ‘All Day Breakfast‘ klaargemaakt: vers vruchtensap, cornflakes, full Irish (black pudding, eieren, spek en worstjes), geroosterd brood, koffie en thee. Ze legt de oorspronkelijke reden van het uitgebreide ontbijt uit: boeren waren gewend dit tot zich te nemen, en hadden dan de rest van de dag eigenlijk alleen nog maar een kop koffie nodig. Zo konden ze werken in het veld of op de akkers, de koffie werd daar gebracht, en er werd geen kostbare tijd verloren met het op en neer reizen naar de boerderij.
We gaan vandaag wandelen rond Loophead, het uiterste puntje van het schiereiland, waar de vuurtoren staat. De zee is indrukwekkend, een vissersbootje met de ‘verse vis van de dag’ lijkt een speelbal van de golven.

Upon Maura’s advise we also take a look at the Bridges of Ross (part of their property). And so we do and we watch the spectaculair waves for hours.
Op advies van Maura gaan we ook een kijkje nemen bij de Bridges of Ross (een stuk land dat in het bezit is van de Keating’s). Daar kijken we uren naar de spectaculaire golven.
In the afternoon we drive to Kilrush, where we have coffee near the harbour (it is really all that we need!), and run some errands. We take the scenic road back to Kilbaha (the Loop Drive) and stop again near the beautiful cliffs. The weather is not too bad, overcast, some sunny spells, windy, but no rain. Today we have also seen Irish Mist. Dinner at the Lighthouse Inn, nice, but we prefer the ambiance at Keating’s!
In de middag rijden we naar Kilrush, waar we een kopje koffie drinken bij de haven (meer hebben we inderdaad niet nodig!) en wat boodschapjes doen. We nemen de scenic road terug (Loop Drive) en stoppen weer bij de mooie kliffen. Het weer is redelijk: bewolkt, af en toe een streepje zon, wel veel wind, maar droog. Vandaag hebben we ook voor het eerst de Irish Mist gezien.
We eten in de Lighthouse-Inn, lekker, maar lang niet zo gezellig als bij Keating’s!
