From Pittsburgh we travel further to Addison where we have booked a room in the Hartzell House B&B. After a warm welcome and dropping our bags in the Traveler’s room, our host lit the fire in the large fireplace and poured us a glass of wine. The fun was short-lived. After a few minutes, we saw some huge wasps circling at the ceiling. Within minutes, there were a dozen, and our alarmed host concluded that there was probably a nest in the chimney. We finished our wine in the bedroom, and had an early night…..
After a lovely breakfast, we travel up to Altoona to visit the Horseshoe Curve and the Railroad Museum. Visiting the curve is worthwhile, not only from a architectural perspective; watching the trains (and there are passing many in an hour!) is an enjoyable pastime.
Pennsylvania has many visiting options, but the one you definitely should not miss is Falling Water, the famous villa built by Frank Lloyd Wright. And take the tour, it is really worth the waiting. Outside and inside, Falling Water is an extraordinary building, with a special atmosphere.
After Addison, it is time to travel to Hummelstown, where we booked Killarney Room at the Inn at Westwynd Farm. The farm is famous for its stables and horses, but know how to spoil their guests. We so enjoyed the lovely home cooked breakfast. Hummelstown is very close to Hershey, famous for the chocolate factory founded by Milton S Hershey. We visited the museum (the factory is no longer downtown), and were lucky to see a parade on our way out of the restaurant where we had dinner.
Our final stop before we head back to New York is Flemington. A small victorian city where we stayed in Main Street Manor. Unfortunately no longer open. We still remember is the classical music, playing in every corner of the house. It is clear that Halloween is around the corner. And even though it is almost the end of October, the weather is still nice.
On October 29th, it is time to travel back to New York and take the plane back home. End of another beautiful trip.
